Tom FairfaxManaging Director Security Risk Management
Tom Fairfax is Managing Director of Security Risk Management, an information security consultancy assisting a wide range of public, private and third sector clients to implement effective information and payment card security, respond to incidents, and enable their organisations to operate safely (or as safely as possible) in the cyber environment.
He has been working in information security since the early 1990s, following service with the British Army in Armoured Reconnaissance (serving with the 9th/12th Royal Lancers and The Queen’s Own Yeomanry). Since 2000 he has served as a member of the Land Information Assurance Group, (LIAG) which has provided the British Army’s principal cyber security capability over the past decade and a half. In his time with both regular and reserves, he has seen service across the globe in a number of operational and peacetime theatres.
Over the past two decades, in uniform and out, Tom and his teams have been lucky enough to be involved in a range of tasks and assignments worldwide, delivering Cyber and Information Security Support to clients in Public, Private and Third sectors, in addition to HM Forces in the UK and overseas.
In addition, Tom runs a mixed farm at Mindrum on the northern edge of the Cheviots. Mindrum balances commercial Sheep, Cattle, Arable and Forestry enterprises with a wide range of environmental and ecological projects.
He currently chairs the Royal British Legion, Crookham and District Branch, and is involved with a range of initiatives across public, private and charity sectors.
Tom is a periodic speaker at a range of local, national and industry events, and is the author of a number of articles in the industry and wider press.
Tom is married with two small children and in his spare time, paints rather optimistic watercolours. He also plays the Ukulele and the Northumbrian Smallpipes (equally optimistically though enthusiastically – clearly a dangerous combination!).
