RANT Forum London – You’re Still Doing Security Wrong!

25th November 2015

Overview

We’re teaming up with Tanium to bring you the last RANT of the year for a lively debate and an early Christmas present…

Trevor Kennedy, with two decades of experience in information security, will argue that we are still getting wrong it when it comes to protecting our enterprise from the bad guys.

Trevor will explain that some of us still have the “Security 1.0” mentality of building higher walls by deploying more and more defensive solutions to stop the bad guys getting in and therefore deciding that detection solutions are not required, I mean why bother detecting breaches if we have blocked them from getting in?

Even those that have the modern “Security 2.0” mentality of both Defend & Detect solutions still have gaps in their deployments and are pretty much wasting their investment in these solutions when they can’t take action on the “actionable intelligence” provided by the Detect technologies.  What’s the point of having this intelligence at your fingertips if you can’t do anything about it?

Trevor will propose that we need to move towards “Security 3.0”, Defend, Detect and Respond.

The other participants all seemed to be there to discuss, share and gain experience and it was refreshing that it didn't feel like anybody was showing off.

A RANT Conference attendee

RANT is a long standing forum providing an opportunity for open and unbiased debate on information security and data privacy issues outside of the constraints of corporate pressures, alongside the opportunity to network with one's peers.
